I made a big mistake in having my taxes done at H&R. I failed to ask the cost, my bad. I recently moved to the area, and the most I have ever paid to have my taxes done was $130. I am on Social Security and I have a state retirement, so I do OK, but by NO means am I rich. The tax preparer seemed to know what she was doing and was polite. I took a whole 50 minutes so do my taxes and I had added up all of my medical and medical miles so all she had to do is put the info in their form on the computer, and for 50 minutes of work II was charged $347, plus if I wanted help later if audited I could pay an extra charge. (That by the way was included in the $130 charged by my last preparer) While my taxes were worked on at H&R, my son and his wife had their personal and business taxes done by a another tax preparer in town and he charged them $300 for everything that he did which took about 2 hours. I am using him next time, because I believe I was overcharged by H&R. (I should have asked what they charged to begin with, as I said, my bad. BUT I never dreamed they would charge such and unreasonable amount for something so easy.) I gave them a 3 STARS because the woman was pleasant and seemed to know what she was doing but as far a the cost it would I wouldn’t give more than a 1 STAR because I thing the charge unreasonable. I really am surprised that people go to them if they charge so much more than other places.
