South Carolina Legal Services (SCLS) provides free legal assistance in a wide variety of civil (non-criminal) legal matters to eligible low income residents of South Carolina. SCLS is a non-profit corporation, funded by grants from the federally funded Legal Services Corporation, the South Carolina Bar Foundation, local United Ways, state court filing fees, and other federal, state and local funding.

My interview was done over the phone and the lady told me to call back within 7-10 business days if I hadn’t received a letter over the mail yet. Then I was contacted before I had received anything because they were asking me to bring in some more paperwork. I brought in the paperwork and the secretary was very rude and unprofessional and kept on repeating “You’re not helping me,……You’re not helping me…….”. Everything the people over the phone told me to do, I was doing. The secretary totally disregarded all of this and then when I called back again within a few days after dropping off this information, the person who answered the phone (who sounded like the same secretary I spoke to in person) was again rude and while I was explaining all of this, she disconnected my phone call and just sent me to a voicemail machine. This company is very rude and unprofessional and if you don’t do what they say within a certain amount of days, your interview gets thrown out. This company needs some more secretaries and new phone operators with some extra professional experience.

Over a period of 6 years, when I was at my lowest and needed help with an estate issue, harrassment issue, or criminal issue. Each time within years apart, the person who answered the phone would listen to my problem, and each time would say. We don’t have an attorney for that. WTF!
