My case was a complicated one. I was placed under deportation in 2008 in Seattle, WA. My first lawyer gave up on my case in 2011, and basically said there was no other way to avoid being deported. My second lawyer was able to get the judge to grant me a withholding of deportation or removal in 2013. The withholding of deportation or removal meant that my case was now shelved, and the government could open it at any time and I would be back in deportation proceedings. I wasn’t eligible for any immigration benefits, e.g. work permit, etc.
