Alameda County Bar Association

The Alameda County Bar Association (ACBA) is a professional membership association for lawyers and other members of the legal profession. The ACBA provides access to ongoing legal education, and promotes diversity and civil rights in the Alameda County legal community. We also provide access to legal services for residents of Alameda County. Our Lawyer Referral Service connects members of the community with a pre-screened qualified Alameda County lawyer. Legal Access Alameda (formerly VLSC), a 501.c.3 nonprofit, provides more than 3,000 hours of free legal services to low-income residents of Alameda County each year.

During COVID, when people were illegally evicted, the Bar shut its doors to the public. There was no community outreach.

They would not call me back nor would anyone help me because I live and work in east Oakland and the normal laws and rights don’t apply if you live in certain areas of Alameda co.

Worked at this place for five days: a nightmare. The head administrator came across as a psychotic, twisted, insecure, oppressive boss who single handedly is destroying the membership (lawyers say other lawyers perceive ACBA as offering them nothing). Some staff mentioned they’re aware she’s whacked. The membership enrollment numbers are way distorted.

Positive: Professionalism, QualityA wonderful organization that really values and promotes access to justice. I have worked with a lot of the staff, and all are professional, dedicated and forward-thinking.

Wasn’t wowed by the experience. The lawyers they referred never called. Their demeanor was uninterested. Customer service is not their forte.
