Slumlords. My boyfriend and I rented the apartment above their “law firm” for about 3 months. We found out AFTER we rented from them that Bill’s license to practice law in the state of NC was currently suspended. Had we known this prior, we would not have rented from them. To make a long story short, we were perfect tenants. We cleaned the place before we moved in because it was moldy and dirty. But that didn’t bother us. They seemed like nice people. Well, about 3 months later, we found a bigger place closer to our jobs. We gave them 2 weeks notice (per their request) and cleaned the apartment before we left. We patched and painted holes, cleaned the carpets and the countertops and mopped our way out the front door. It was immaculate. Well, Ashley called me one day to say they were keeping our $600 deposit because we “destroyed the place” and “left it disgusting.” I honestly thought she was kidding at first… They would not answer our attorney’s letters and Bill even ran back inside when my boyfriend stopped by to speak with him. We let it go and moved on with our lives… but I really don’t want anyone else to have to deal with these people. Avoid at all costs!
