So my mother was being treated at the United Hebrew nursing home on Pelham road after suffering a fall at home. Several times I reached out to try to get in contact with the administration office and apparently i kept getting a voicemail. After having several concerns i finally said enough was enough. I drove down into New Rochelle from staten Island to see if I could speak to someone. entering the building I was greeted by a reception personal who had ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE AS HOW HE COULD HELP ME. (Lack of training if you ask me)He informed me that he was just a over night guard and new to the job. I informed him that I have been trying to get ahold of an administrator for several days and was not successful. The gentleman ask me to have my tempature taken and to have a seat. As I waited in the lobby I began to become more and more frustrated as people were walking around and carrying on with personal conversations. As I anxiously waited to speak with someone, I decided to call and try again to reach someone who may possibly help me. To my surprise after being transferred i heard the phone ring in a neighboring office near where I was sitting. As I quickly stood up to see whom will pickup the phone I witnessed that a dirty blonde hair lady in the office had forward me to voicemail as she chatted on a cell phone smiling and giggling. As I began to become even more frustrated due to the smell of cigarette in the lobby people were walking around as if they had nothing to do. Long story short after 45 minutes of waiting to speak to someone I soon realized that the only thing that “Grace” and the dirty blonde hair lady was concerned with was fassion, loosing weight, watches ,and makeup. The dirty blonde was thanking a lady by the name of GRACE. (Someone who was overly dressed to be working in a nursing home, if you ask me. Roughly after waiting for nearly an entire hour I was finally quite frankly fedup and couldn’t endure the stench of cigarette. 2 days later my mother had to go back to the hospital with no return to the center.

Excellent nursing home, rehab and assisted living facility. I have had 3 grandparents experience 3 different facilities they offer here and the staff is incredible. The place is super clean and always have something going on. Everyone is friendly and makes you feel like family, They truly make your loved ones feel like they are their own. My grandmother was able to fight her cancer after 3.5 years of living there. We are grateful for UH. Thank you.

My father is there in Rehab, and my mother in Respite. My father has had blood pressure problems, urinary problems and other medical issues. They take a long time to get things done, rarely have specialists, and nurses take a long time to respond. My Mother has been there almost 4 weeks and still has not gotten ANY Physical Therapy despite several phone calls from me. There are some excellent friendly staff, but the place is disorganized and doesn’t run well.

Mom came here for re-hab after she fell and had some surgery. We were so pleased to see that UH partners with Burke for geriatric rehab patients Burke PTs come to UH to work with the residents. The care is excellent, and mom is doing well.. We hear the food is good also, another plus!

The therapy is suboptimal. It is intermittant, often cancelled, and is terminated too early. The doctor we had complained and tried to have therapy reassigned for my relative when it ended too early, and his orders were IGNORED. The therapists are POORLY trained, and even after my doctor and I complained that my mother was not being walked properly, the problems continued. It is abysmal.

So far so good everything seems to be working out well and staff are doing a great job. We are using the rehab, I will update review as time grows, we are living at UB during this time. Food is pretty good and the local area has a mix of local stores to meet most needs.

If you want to actually experience the nursing home itself, make sure you take the elevator UP, past the 1st floor. You will not find a clean chair to sit on, or a clean window to look out from. You can call a nurse’s desk from your cell phone and stand there to observe that no one will come to the desk to answer the ringing phone. There are roaches in the bathrooms. And residents have to wait long periods of time before someone can be found to take them to the bathroom. If you doubt any of this visit the place and see it for yourself. I wish I could post pics here.

I valet my car at United while I was visiting my mother and when I came out there was damage. I was sure the valet did the damage but to my surprise the valet manager showed me video coverage of the time I entered and left and the valet did not do the damage. My sincere apology’s for jumping the gun and accusing the valet. James the manger was very helpful and professional about the situation. My sincere apologies and please understand it was my mistake not the valets.

Very disorganized and that’s not a good quality of a rehab especially for my 90 year old father. The intake manager Maria was wonderful and then it was all downhill.

My mother was here for a year. They are not very attentive to the patients. They constantly forgot to put in her hearing aid and lost her dentures twice. You have to monitor them constantly…
