Nothing in my life adequately prepared me for the process of caring for my aging parents, and like I suspect is the case with the vast majority of people, the need to fully understand what needed to be done at a moment’s notice put me on my heels. There are very few people who have the time, wherewithal, or cognitive horsepower that would compel them to become savvy on all the obscure, ambiguous, conflicting, and disjointed laws which relate to the legal and financial requirements, rights, entitlements, options, or processes that one needs to know when one or both of their elderly parents suddenly find themselves unable to care for themselves.
