Positive: Professionalism, Quality, Responsiveness, ValueThe South Carolina Bar referred me to Jon T. Clabaugh, Jr. for help with a post-trial motion for relief from a final order in family court. Immediately after I reviewed the final order administering the settlement and saw a significant error between it and the court approved mediated agreement that had been signed, I began a year-long quest to find representation to correct the issue. Near the end of an extremely frustrating one-year window to make the motion, I contacted the South Carolina Bar Lawyer Referral Service and asked for help. After reviewing all of the documentation and confirming that we were on sound footing, Mr. Clabaugh agreed to pursue a court ordered correction. After an attempt to settle out of court and another year of waiting for an in-person hearing due to COVID-19, the court acknowledged the error, awarded relief from the final order administering the settlement, and also ordered the other party to pay legal fees. Throughout the process, I followed Mr. Clabaugh’s advice and paid the bill, and I have no regrets. Mr. Clabaugh did a copious amount of legal research to support my position. He was extremely thorough and meticulous in all actions including advisement, documentation, and court presentation, and he paid a great deal of attention to detail. Mr. Clabaugh’s integrity, knowledge, and pursuit of a fair and equitable result is what all of us should expect from legal representation; however, it is sadly difficult to find. I would not hesitate to seek Mr. Clabaugh’s counsel in any legal matter, nor would I hesitate to recommend him to others. The South Carolina Bar referred me to Jon T. Jon was the 5th attorney I used and the only one to actually get me a settlement. My case was difficult as it had to be moved from another state. Throughout the many trying times I could always reach him by phone almost immediately and I felt that he truly cared about me. A statement was provided each month so I was always aware of any charges. I was also impressed with his knowledge base compared to the many other attorneys I have known. He always impressed me as being in control of the many situations that occurred. Great person and great attorney.

We were not happy with him at all. He spends your money like it is water and hounds you for more. I agree with the other statement made by JD in the reviews that he does constantly repeat himself in conversation and charges you for him doing all the talking (even repetitively) as well as his ethics, also. He was given thousands of dollars for one thing and told not to spend it and we caught him in a lie stating he never got the message but I told him I can prove he did get it because he responded to a question in that same text. He will get loud and talk over you if you argue with his billing. The duplicate texts we were charged for was questioned and he stated that the texts weren’t released because we had not paid our bill, therefore, it was released when it was paid. That does not even make sense. Besides that, why were we charged additional billing for the same thing we gave him money for that he was not suppose to touch? He even changed his price after court was over in front of witnesses.
