Application process is an EASY 10 minutes. I got my appointment the following week with the Director. The gentleman who did my application over the phone patiently listened to my concerns. When I became emotional for a few seconds he was VERY empathetic and kind. He was reassuring and soft spoken. So far, my FIRST interaction with them has been FANTASTIC so far. The meetings are over the phone.

I know most people do not have the resources to hire a private attorney, so unfortunately most of us have to use legal aid. I’m going to say this, if you can, try to save for your own attorney. Free legal services means poor representation. They won’t go to bat for you. You’re just a number to them. Most of the lawyers look down on you. The most unprofessional service ever. Study your laws, memorize them if you can. You can study books in the libraries and online, so you can better yourself. You’re better off representing yourself than relying on these people. When you see your legal aid attorney laughing with the other party’s attorney, it’s time to let him/her go. See this is what free will get you. This is what you deal with. There are so many attorneys in VA. I’ll never deal with legal aid again, I’ll take my chances representing myself, or save to hire my own.

I have been dealing with some things lately and really didn’t know what I was going to do so I called legal aid. Today I had a phone meeting with Emily, she was a tremendous help, basically worked things out for me and did it all by phone! She is very knowledgeable, and you can tell she enjoys helping others. Thanks Emily! I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders!
