Long Point State Park on Lake Chautauqua

  4.5 – 442 reviews   • State park

Social Profile :

Long Point, which juts peninsula-like into Lake Chautauqua, is one of the moraines left long ago by a retreating glacier. The park and marina comprise a day-use area with hiking and biking trails through thickly-wooded areas of beech, maple, spruce, poplar and oak. The park’s boat launch is the most modern on Lake Chautauqua, which, at 1,308 feet above sea level, is one of the highest navigable bodies of water in North America. There is also a recently renovated swimming beach. In winter, visitors can cross-country ski, snowmobile or ice-fish.

Nice park for nature and taking in the sights of the lake. Walking the actual “long point” peninsula offers some unique vantage points of Lake Chautauqua. There are many marked nature trails to check out as well. The park has many amenities including restrooms, picnic areas, and a beach, although the beach can be closed from time to time due to water quality issues.

When ice fishing down to lake Chautauqua , Long point State Park to be specific the fishing was good snow is a little heavy on the ice still ended up catching a good amount of perch the only disappointing part was this is a state park and they usually have the bathrooms open which is Handy and that’s why I go to this spot , good for older gentleman. Beautiful park with some great trails to hike. A pair of trails take you to the tip of the point in the middle of the lake. It was fun to hike one trail in and one trail out. There were some stone structures to explore and benches to sit on and look out upon the lake. My three young kids (under 10) loved the adventure.

This place is beautiful for the nature lover! Kids will also enjoy it here, this location includes fishing spot, a beach, a playground on the beach, picnic areas, bathhouse and restrooms, and several beautiful hiking or biking trails as well! The swimming is decent because the water is pretty shallow for quite some way, and as a mother that just feels good! Definitely a good stop to check out, I personally adore the hiking trails here

Something for everyone and pleasantly surprised by the trails here. Paved, gravel, double track dirt, and rough off road single track. A myriad of off road trails criss cross through the woods going much farther than expected or mapped out on website trail maps. Picnic area, walking paths, beach, fishing, nature watching, boat watching. Really could not ask for more so close to the lake.

Long Point is such a gem. The trails are clear and well maintained, and perfect for hiking and mountain biking in the summer and snowshoeing and cross country skiing in the winter. Plus, there are lovely beaches and well kept facilities. Check out the burritos at the boat launch in the summer! So good.
