I have been trying to get here for months and I finally made it. All I can say is that they didn’t disappoint at all and I was so happy! All of the food was flavorful and staff was pleasant. Melba was there and more beautiful in person. I can’t wait until Spring to get back for outdoor dining. So glad I got to experience this. P.S. the picture of the calamari isn’t the full plate. We forgot to take the picture before we started devouring the food. Sorry not sorry.

There is nothing bad I could say about this place. The flavors were all there. The drinks were great, and even though it was super busy, the service was good too. I recommend making a reservation to save you the headache of a long wait. I was brought in 10 min after I checked in!! Some people I saw had been waiting awhile. My table was alittle unstable and the waiter got on his handles and knees to put tissue under it. This helped a lot. I loved it here.

I have been wanted to try this restaurant for a while. I made reservations for me and the girls for 1pm. When we arrived I found parking close by. We walked in and the restaurant is pretty small. I gave the hostess my name and seen they didn’t update the table from 4 to 5 people so they had to squeeze us at a table. Malice was our server and she was so nice and attentive. For my first drink I went with the rum punch which was too sweet for me. So I changed it to the red sangria which was better.

Serving Harlem since 2005, this place is your go-to when you’re in the neighborhood. This is my 2nd time eating and they never fail to serve you with a warm atmosphere. You should definitely try their fried chicken and waffle with strawberry butter! I’ve lived in the city for a decade and I don’t know any place that serves strawberry butter. Since I dined in at a very frost bite cold of 12F, I asked if they have warm drinks and luckily they do! They made me spiked cider and I was on it right away! Just be careful holding your glass because it IS hot! They play music but it was mostly in the 90s which brought me back to my HS days. Harlem is a must visit and Melba’s is a MUST go-to when you plan an itinerary. I’m definitely coming back!

I saw Melba on a Discovery+ Soul Food cooking show and i made reservations that night. The entire space is a mood. The soul and r&b music had me doing a little dance as i ate. I enjoyed the wine braised beef ribs and they were life changing. The definition of delicious. Tender, flavorful and seasoned perfectly. I had to force myself to stop because I was so full. The greens and mac was amazing. True soul food style fixins. My partner raved about the bbq turkey meatloaf. He cleaned his plate. The next day he had to talk me out of making such a quick return. We were disappointed we missed Melba by an hour but we are committed to meeting her. She’s a legend.

If only I had not gone to the bathroom! The bathroom was so filthy that I couldn’t erase it from my mind during dinner. Trash can overflowing, paper on the floor, and just disgusting! I felt like I was eating in someone’s nasty house.

I didn’t care for what I chose on the menu spring rolls stuffed with rice cheese a collards they were horrible. I also ordered chili onion rings those three onion rings were sent back. Two of our party ordered cat fish strips they said they were dried out and hard. The chicken and oxtails plates that are pictured the ones that ordered that said it was ok. I gave three stars because the red velvet cake was heavenly delicious melbas was redeemed with 3 stars. I tried it but not a spot I would return to my next New York visit.

Food is usually amazing from Melba’s. This time, the mac n cheese was cheap and did not taste like soul food mac n cheese at all. They just sprinkled real cheese on top for the optics. The yams tasted like straight molasses and it had 4 hard plastic pieces in the container.
