Reviews & Complaints

Martha Nelson
The Human Rights office located formerly, at 175 Clinton, moved 2yrs ago to 50 Clinton St., 3rd flr, suite 301. For security reasons, the front entrance door of the actual office is locked. A little patience is required. But, after you press the bell on the left side of the door frame, someone will open the door. Once inside there’s a receptionist sitting behind the plexi glass. After she determines your reason for coming she will instruct you accordingly. All encounters experienced and observed, were quite friendly, pleasant, patient and professional, how refreshing. If you’re there to file a complaint, you will be given a lengthy complaint application to complete. The questions are quite detailed. Later, you will be called and interviewed inside conference room 1 or 2, the person will go over your written application, making sure you understood the written application and the process of how your complaint will be addressed is explained to you. This stage of the application is critical, you may feel scared or uncomfortable. But, the Human Right’s Investigator puts you at ease. They seem to want you to wait and ask your questions after they finish giving you an explanation of their processes. It would be better if they stated this beforehand, as oppose to you interrupting them to ask a question, and have them rudely stop you. Also, they may be short staffed and, this Will affect the interview. Other than that the experience is professional. But, lengthy. So, don’t expect to be out within a few minutes. It could be 45mins-1hr, depending on staffing availability. The parking is a challenge, so get there early to have time to drive around the parking lot, looking for a parking space. The building itself has additional parking in the lower level. Sadly, the building itself is in poor condition and it physically shows.
