The Law Offices of Tad Nelson & Associates provides legal assistance to Houstonians who have taken an interest in sealing their criminal records or having them erased entirely. DEA & Federal Cases
Individuals charged or under the threat of federal drug charges need to hire a lawyer as soon as possible to avoid what could possibly be a life without parole sentence. Federal cases starkly contrast with state cases in that the DOJ is usually unwilling to be flexible in any manner with the defendant. In conspiracy cases, they might not have evidence, but enough circumstantial rhetoric to probably chalk up a conviction. Tad Nelson is a State Board Certified criminal law attorney and has been since the mid-1990s. We have experience challenging FBI & DEA claims of criminal wrongdoing. If you’re going up against the federal government in court and your freedom is on the line, you’ll need a smart lawyer like Tad Nelson on your side. To schedule a consultation with our federal criminal defense lawyers, call The Law Offices of Tad Nelson & Associates today at 713-802-1631.
DWI with Child in Vehicle

Many times when a person is accused of driving impaired with a kid present, the defendant will lose hope and strike a bad deal with prosecutors to get the matter behind them. In some cases, that’s a good idea but not typically so. If you need legal advice about the best way to address a criminal charge of DWI with a child passenger, contact The Law Offices of Tad Nelson & Associates as soon as possible by calling us at 713-802-1631. Houston DUI
DUI is the generally agreed upon acronym for Driving Under the Influence. DUI offenses are (usually) only applied to minors who drive while intoxicated on alcohol. Adults who drive or operate a motor vehicle while impaired by a substance other than alcohol may also be charged with DUI but can be charged with DWI should the situation call for it.Persons who drive while intoxicated on illegal drugs or prescription drugs can also be charged with DUI in place of DWI. With the right legal representation, a misapplied charge for DWI might theoretically be reduced to DUI.In short, juveniles & people who drive while using marijuana are the main groups of people cited or arrested for DUI. Although the offense is a ticketable Class C Misdemeanor, it can and will likely result in Administrative License Revocation by the Texas Medical Advisory Board. If you need to talk with a DUI lawyer in Houston about a case like this, call The Law Offices of Tad Nelson & Associates at 713-802-1631.

Manufacture & Delivery Cases
When a person’s accused of possessing a controlled substance, that’s one thing. However, when a person’s arrested for possessing or having active control over a controlled substance for the purpose of manufacture & distribution (selling drugs), the stakes are much higher. Any related criminal charge will be enhanced. For example; a person arrested for possession up to 4 ounces (112 grams) of marijuana for personal use will be charged with a misdemeanor, but if they have as little as 7 grams for sale, it’s a felony. For illicit drugs such as meth, cocaine, heroin, PCP, crack and other compounds, and enhanced first-degree felony could be an effective life sentence. In spite of an arrest for an extremely serious drug offense, our law firm has extensive experience helping defendants overcome the odds when the chips are down. If you need a lawyer in Houston that knows what it takes to beat felony dope cases, call The Law Offices of Tad Nelson & Associates today at 713-802-1631.
Marijuana Defense
Marijuana Possession
In Texas, criminal charges for marijuana possession are classified as both misdemeanors and felonies. The severity of the criminal classification for the charge is also determined by the nature of the possession. In other words, was marijuana possessed for the purpose of personal use or for the purpose of manufacture and distribution? A person arrested for the possession of less than 4 ounces of marijuana for personal use will be charged with a misdemeanor drug offense while a person who is distributing or selling marijuana will be charged with a felony if the amount in their possession is over 7 grams. If you or a loved one were arrested in connection with accusations of marijuana possession, The Law Offices of Tad Nelson & Associates may be able to help you. If you were “accused” of public intoxication by police officers in Houston or elsewhere in Harris County, it’s vital for you to understand your rights and that you aren’t guilty on the merits of the arrest alone. Attorney Tad A. Nelson, a veteran DWI & DUI lawyer in Houston and founder of The Law Offices of Tad Nelson & Associates, prefers to work with his clients to get criminal charges either dismissed or to find out if there’s a way to beat the claims of the officer during a courtroom jury trial. Although public intoxication charges are classified as misdemeanor offenses, avoiding the albatross of a criminal record is invaluable and is a battle worth fighting. April 15, 2012 I was arrested for a DWI. I had a history of DWI convictions. The District Attorney was ruthless. I was on Parole and could not bond out. I went to trial and was found NOT GUILTY on April 2, 2015. Yes, I was found NOT GUILTY after sitting in jail 2-1/2 years. I felt my neck under the boot of an impatient, Byzantine legal bureaucracy of Galveston County. The true blessing and hope was that I was in good hands with Tad Nelson and Amber Spurlock on my side. I was in the conservative court of Judge Lonnie Cox, which is said to favor the State. I was summoned to his chambers and was greeted by an Electric Chair sitting next to the photo of him and his bride. One could not feel any less comfortable. The Galveston Police officer had a story and so did I. Both stories conflict each other. Tad Nelson listened to every word I had to say and he asked all the right questions. Tad and his team did their research, and did a great job doing so. Thanks to Tad Nelson and his team, we won! I am forever grateful for all the attention he gave me and the fact that he paid attention to what I had to say. I tell everyone I know about Tad Nelson because of his great work. It was a very stressful time and Tad was there for me. A case like this is very hard to win, but I believed in myself and more important my lawyer Tad Nelson . -Jeff Walters

I wanted to send a big thank you to Tad Nelson and Amber Spurlock for helping out on a recent DWI case in Houston in an outstanding fashion. They show up in court, return phone calls, and do everything they say they’ll do, and are who they say they are, as advertised. I only wish I could share details of the stellar legal advice we received, but you just gotta take me word for it. If only more lawyers had the same level of integrity the world would be a better place. I reccomend the Tad Nelson & Associates to anyone who needs help fighting DUI charges in Houston.
