I am deeply concerned. I just received in the mail an envelope full of papers for someone who was the victim of a violent crime. His court hearing is next Tuesday. The envelope was mailed out day before yesterday. He has paperwork in there to complete and return. I DON’T EVEN KNOW WHO HE IS! This stuff came in an envelope addressed to my mom, was was also the victim of a violent crime. I wonder who got her paperwork or if we missed her first court hearing. WOW this is unprofessional. WOW this is careless. Just WOW. Based on the other reviews I am seeing I am not holding out much hope they will lift a finger to find this victim. I will find him if I can. Just WOW.

Attorney Melanie Shekita is the most amazing attorney on earth. She helped me get through the toughest time of my life. It was a week trail and she was there by my side and never threw in the towel. Preparing for the trial was long and excruciating but she didn’t leave my side. She has the biggest heart Iv ever seen and I can’t imagine doing her line of work. She fought back tears with me when it all came to an end. To this day we’re still close and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I can’t speak on any other attorneys but if there anything like Melanie there wonderful too.

I’ve been working with a female victim of a brutal attack who has an upcoming court date. She and I have tried to contact the office for assistance numerous times. We get put on hold for hours, transferred throughout the building, and placed on hold again. We’ve been given promises of email responses several times concerning very pertinent information, and never receive anything, no phone calls are returned. I’m angry and hurt that so many people in this office have such a low regard for victims and the willingness to help them. These are “professionals” who also fall under the category of “to protect and serve”. It truly saddens me, I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night knowing that I didn’t do my job to the best of my ability, and didn’t help somebody that really needed it.

They never call you back or meet with you even to share vital documents that help victims they do not respond or call back even when you or a attorney goes to the office because their is more than one victim same perpetrator. Very lazy pretty much just gives no stop plea bargin the more crime in a short period of time a perprator gets the more plea bargains they give them including. In child endangerment cases they don’t contact cps or the other parent give plea bargains to drop child endangerment charges on the list of charges they endanger children with their negligence and fail women when they allow repeat predators even people who assault cops and state troopers off the hook where assault on a state trooper does not even go to court . Cps needs child endangerment charges to be kept other wise they can’t protect children .

This office is a joke. I would give 0 stars if I could. I called and left a voicemail, no return to my call. I called and spoke with a Legal Assistant in the DV unit, she was very rude and condescending, even laughing at the nature of the case to me on the phone. I was calling to ask questions regarding the case because I am unfamiliar with legal stuff (no criminal record). She gave me false information, confirmed by my attorney. She was unprofessional and rude and should not be working there. I am appalled that this is how Wake County DA allows the office to be handled. Shame on you.

Very upset! My husband has been waiting 2.5 years to be scheduled a court date. The da assigned to his case in the system is a person who has not even worked in the da office for over 2 years! He was supposedly given a new da but she is not listed on his case in the system…which may explain why we have been a waiting for so long. Multiple calls to the da office and leaving her messages and being told that the da must work with the attorney on the case and not me, the attorney has said for so long that she is to busy at the time to talk because of other cases. To my understanding it’s our right of due process to a fair and speedy trial- All that is needed is a freaking date set- he has pulled half the time to the charge already as well as has been on house arrest for about 2 years waiting – I don’t know what to do! I’ve tried to contact the main da, her assistant took my info but no other contact, I’ve called da multiple times, I’ve emailed other assistant da’s to just ask for next communication steps/ no resolution / it’s just frustrating as several other attornies have said pay me 3-5 thousand dollars and I will have this dismissed in 30 days or less due to the evidence- well we are not financially able to do this so we will continue to lose time/ funds/ and memories you can not get back (4 kids-husband lost his job when arrested for all of this last month) and no body seems to care enough to just schedule a freaking date!

If spoke to Katherine the district attorney she was very rude and disrespectful to me over the phone. She has had an issue on her desk for over 8 months. I just don’t believe this is what we want in this type of office!!

Wake County Assistant District Attorney Melanie Shekita is the reason many people view this office is a joke. How did this complete moron get a job as a prosecutor? Were Beavis and Butthead not available?

I have been on hold for 30 mins and 28 secs and still counting! You would think they have some type of answering machine set up! This is my 3rd time calling the first 2 times I hung up after 15 mins but today Im really trying to get everything squared away!

Absolutely terrible. Doesn’t care for public safety or about victims of domestic violence. Turns the other cheek for less paperwork. Way to go Raleigh.
