Critical: Professionalism, Quality, ValueMeagan Moodie was disappointing. I hired her to assist with a custody case involving the abusive father of my son. I met with Meagan initially and she said all of the right things. Meagan then dropped out of the picture for most of the following 5.5 months, only to reappear less than 48 hours before we had mediation. At that point, Meagan had clearly forgotten details of the case including the names of my son and ex and the fact that abuse was involved. Meagan made several very upsetting victim-blaming remarks and I seriously thought about terminating the relationship right then (and in retrospect, I should have). It blows my mind that Meagan is a Child and Family Investigator for the state of Colorado given the things she said.Ultimately, I spent $29,000 with the firm over the course of ~8 months and my abusive ex was awarded more time with our son than he had prior to me retaining Meagan. To say I am disappointed is an understatement. In addition to inappropriate remarks from Megan, I found the firm to be disorganized (asking me to fill out the same documents multiple times – all of which I was charged for), lacked attention to detail (consistent misspellings of names and incorrect case documents were used), had poor customer service (things were routinely communicated to me with very little notice and an important call with the attorneys was cancelled at the last minute with no apologies), and the firm actually billed me for another client’s work at one point (when I called attention to this, it was corrected but I was then billed for the time spent making the correction).If I could do it over again, I would either hire a different firm or represent myself. I’ve debated whether to post this review but considering how devastating it is to deal with domestic abuse, I would hate for anyone else in similar shoes to also experience it and the experience I had with this attorney. One good thing (if you can call it that) did result from all of this: my ex and I are now communicating via Civil Communicator. I highly recommend this tool for anyone else who is also dealing with a verbally or psychologically abusive individual on parenting matters.Meagan Moodie was disappointing. Meagan Moodie was disappointing. I hired her to assist with a custody case involving the abusive father of my son. I met with Meagan initially and she said all of the right things. Heather had the utmost level of professionalism throughout my entire divorce process. Heather completed all drafts of documents and kept in the loop with everything. Her communication was always timely and explanatory. I felt at ease knowing Heather and GEM Family Law was handing my case to make sure everything was fair, equitable, and in the best interests of my daughter and myself. The support staff was amazing and responded quickly with any questions I had about billing and payment. The quality of service, attention to detail, and experience are well worth the money spent. With the help of Tyler, I was able to get what was fair and just in a very difficult custody battle. I decided I wanted her help drawing up the Separation Agreement. I gave her all the information my former spouse and I agreed on and the date we had to have it in to the courts. She promised multiple times to have it to me by that afternoon.. three weeks went by. Also everytime I inquired the status I got billed, she kept changing a word here and there and asked me to approve. I had approved 5 times ago Her superior Elizabeth also did the same thing- adding stuff I didn’t ask for. I wrote two ugly emails to their office in a panic as my due date with the courts was coming in a few days. Finally I received the Separation Agreement at 8pm the evening before it was due. My case nearly got thrown out!!! I would of had to start over. I complained and they billed me more!!! At the end of the day I paid $2226 for a very simple divorce (we were in agreement, there were no children involved or alimony- just sale of house and one car with a loan). I thought because I came to them as a referral from the same hair dresser and since Chelsea recently passed her bar and had a team of supervision I would get excellent care. Boy was I wrong! When she charges $180 an hour I am unsure how she charged $2226. My divorce was finalized Aug 7th and then I got an additional bill of $10 for filing fees. I filed everything myself No idea what they are talking about. They are extremely unprofessional. The point of getting a lawyer was to make this stressful time easier not harder.
